Just had the doctor's appointment, certifying that, indeed, I will not drop dead at the office.

When she called my name the doctor kind of stared at me like I was kicking puppies right then and there, and I had to pause and wonder, "What? What did I do? Do you know me? What?" and when we shook hands she said she didn't recognize me, as if to say, "OMG WTF NEW PATIENT". I told her my mom had recommended her and that was that. Still, very strange.

Once in her office, it went well, just question after question and me able to say "No" in a thousand different ways. Then it came up that I wasn't a virgin, and that the guy I had had sex with was of the African continent, and I could just see the alarm bells getting to ring. They really rung when I told her I hadn't had a gynocological visit since my last sexual encounter.

So after the talky bit there was the touchy bit. I got to completely undress and put on those useless tiny little robes that have no back or ass or anything. There was some lung checking, some thyroid checking, UNEXPECTED BREAST EXAM WAS UNEXPECTED, some abdominal checking, so on. Then we went onto the not-quite-UNEXPECTED-as-of-ten-minutes-before pap smear. I was well into my "let's stare at the wall and fucking own that wall" mode, just all, "Fiddle with my body bits, I'll be right over here if you need me."

Then I got dressed and we talked about my absolutely shitty periods. It's official: I have dysmenorrhea. Not that the blinding pain and cold sweats and the ringing in my ears and the nausea and the fainting weren't diagnosis enough. But now I've got some help on which pills to take and when to take them, and if that doesn't work there's always The Pill, but I think that for all of it's side-effects - long and short term - I can put with with four hours of excruciating kill-me-now-fuck-you-God pain twice or thrice a year... Of course, I say that now...

Then we talked about blood tests and STD tests. So I guess I'm going to go tomorrow to the blood clinic - sans breakfast, and actually on the morning side of noon for once - to get some tests. Including the "had sex with someone from the African continent" test. Just, y'know, to be able to throw the "Everything's Fine" party with no inkling of guilt or suspicion.

Then in the afternoon I'll go to my old internship place and OMG SOCIALIZE (and scan and email and all that jazz).

I've been listening to Thea Gilmore's "Avalanche" on repeat since I got back home. I've got that half-a-bottle of beer from yesterday and some chips. I have Mark Sheppard in some three episodes of Dollhouse to rewatch. (I think I didn't recognize him the first time because his face has freakin' morphed since he was a not-so-wee thing on Firefly.) I think I'll be okay.
