bending_sickle | The tide that left and never came back*

Little visible progress today in terms of plot, because most of my word count went to extending two scenes and adding in one important detail. Once that was done, I couldn't bring myself to start the angstily epic Chip and Icarus Talk About Stuff (And the Angel Mopes) scene, so I wrote an Agatha flashback instead. It's the second flashback, and neither were Chip's, which is a change from TFSB, and I kind of like the idea of getting out of Chip's space.

Mom went out for milk and never came back. That was how the end of the world started for Agatha.

Mom went out for five minutes going on forever and Agatha could do nothing but sit and wait and wait some more. The afternoon sun crossed their small living room, passing over the couch and the coffee table and slipping across the floor until it left the Falkner residence completely. Agatha wasn't scared of the dark but she was scared of something alright – scared of the quiet and the noise. The quiet of her mother’s absence and the noises coming in from outside did horrible things to her stomach, made her heart press itself against her ribs. Agatha sat on the couch and watched the room darken with the twilight, holding a pillow to her chest and trying to listen past the silence ringing in her ears for her mother's steps, the sound of jangling keys. Twilight came and went, the night settled in, and Mom still wasn’t back. The noises outside were louder, all shouts and screams and breaking glass. Like if someone had filled the streets with televisions and tuned them all to horror movies and the history channel, cranking the volume all the way up.
