Today: Nothing for breakfast and a quick grocery run for lunch and dinner. Wrote some "It's winter! With holidays you may or may not celebrate!" cards.
[livejournal.com profile] lienne and [livejournal.com profile] seschat, I'd love to send y'all cards but I have nowhere to send them, which sucketh. So if you want me to send you some lovin', just send me a personal message or email telling me where to send it.

Rewatched Doctor Who "Turn Left" (got teary eyed again during the "Off to the labour camp!" scene) and then...yeah, nothing much.

Yesterday: I went to Amsterdam in the afternoon in search for further Christmas presents inspiration (failure) and non-religious holiday cards (success). I failed at having any sort of lunch, and when I got home there was nothing for dinner but cheese and mandarins (translation: fail). Tried to set up a coffee-date with an acquaintance (French guy Azdine, friend of Gabrielle) but got cancelled on 'cause he didn't study on Saturday and so wanted to study Sunday. I watched the episodes of ER with Misha Collins (which, over three episodes, barely adds up to five minutes) and cried the whole time because damn you, show, leave my heartstrings alone.

Friday: Rebound Nano with new and improved back-cover (with squee). Read and commented on scientific note am co-author on regarding lions. Went to the Hague to wander the shops looking for inspiration on Christmas presents (failure), have dimsum (awesome) and watch Paranormal Activity (trailer).

Due to Dayna ([livejournal.com profile] sweetdragon's squeeful review of the movie on [livejournal.com profile] made_of_fail_pc's Edpisode 22: Don't Taunt the Fear Demon I decided to watch the film. I didn't even watch a trailer or check out the website (which, unless I fail the internets, doesn't really have anything interesting).

I thought I was going to be horrible, irrevocable scarred by the movie, because a) I got the heebie-jeebies after just listening to a review, b) poltergeist activity (whether by ghost, invisible-people-who-are-not-Claude, or demon) freaks me out a lot, c) it involves invisible things doing shit to you in your bedroom and I'm still not over that scene in The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Well, I was a bit jumpy the night I watched the movie, but nothing too bad, and now I'm perfectly okay. I had worse nights after watching Karla, which is totally not geared as a horror film (in the traditional sense: it's pretty horrific). So no pyschological scarring, which racks the movie some negative points in the horror department.

During the viewing, I did pull up my feet from the floor and keep my hands over my face (without impeding my vision) for a few scenes. But for most of the movie, I wasn't terribly scared. (Unless I've blacked out the whole thing, but nah.)

In fact, I had stronger emotions of "Grr! Argh!" at Micah, the boyfriend, who is an utter, utter ass because he antagonizes the demon ("Is that all you've got?!") and tries to be all "My house! My woman! Me fix thing!" cavemanly.

The bit that stuck with me the most in terms of fright is the footprints bit: Micah scatters talcum powder about the entrance (instead of salt - oh, Winchesters, where were you?) and we see footprints going into the room. (Alright, so the scaryness is somewhat limited because all the while I was thinking how the footprints looked like dinosaur tracks, which was distracting and downplayed the fear-factor.)

The only other bit which really freaked me out was the one you can see in the trailer, where the bedsheets are lifted and a foot is exposed by an invisible hand. But then, this is no new fear and pales in comparison to The Exorcism of Emily Rose (invisible!demon rape in your bed). Still, freaky. Why those people slept with the door open is beyond me.

Still, I loved, loved, loved the actress who played Katie, and while Micah was an idiot at least he was a cute one. I wish Katie'd had more balls to call the demonologist earlier despite Micah's "We don't need one! I'm taking care of it! I'm in control!" idiocy.

All in all, though, a good movie with good scares, good plot and very good characters. I loved Katie, and I loved how much a couple the two were and how realistic it all was. So yay. I'm still surprised at how not terrified I am, wondering if maybe I'm faulty, but it's good.
