bending_sickleI've finally lost enough emotional self-preservation to check out Heath Ledger on YouTube.

I lost my "Oh he's a darling!" smile so fast near the end of the Ellen video. Right about when she gives him the suit and I realize he'll never see his daughter in it. Eyes got all teary and everything.
Lost potential like this just hurts.
You know, it's weird, because I never actually focused on him ever. Hell, I was going to say he hasn't been in that many films but boy am I wrong. I've never had an actor!crush on him - although I oogled loads in Ten Things I Hate About You - and certainly didn't chase after his films. Still, I liked him. (ETA: The hell was I on just now? I just rewatched a bit and damn, I just know I crushed hard when I watched the movie. It was just so long ago, and, not having been in fandom back then, though, it was a short crush.)
And what's more, he was going to be one of those great actors I would see mature and prime. Seriously, most of the actors I'd been impressed by and followed are well into their forties. (Except for maybe Tennant and Simm.) And these actors enter my sphere of knowledge already made, already good, solid. But Ledger was going to be my generation's. He was going to make a name for himself, and I'd watch the evolution, and he'd be this nice little constant.
And now, posthumously, I stare at his latest role going, "No way is that you," and thinking that no other actor's ever made me try so goddamn hard to recognize him under all those layers of character.
And that's it. Over and out. The rocket's sputtered to the ground. Hell, I don't know why it upsets me so much. The talent, the age? (He's a year older than my brother. That is much to close to home in the, "Omg seriouly, young. To be dead? Too young.")
PS: I just now realized I never mentioned the Joker laughing in GaPA. *facepalm* Still, there is squee. (Oh, and at times, writing the POV-voice was reminiscent of writing Firefly's Jayne.)

ETA3: And The Dark Knight! Oh internet, I love you. ETA3b: Except only Part 1's are available. Argh. Anyway, I was thinking of watching it again at the cinema...

Date: 2008-08-22 06:34 pm (UTC)I watched 10 Things... last night (1 am be damned!) and found that I miraculously didn't choke up watching it. (Heath's too gorgeous and cheeky for that.) There were a few of my "Oh Heath" sad!sighs, which I'm afraid will never stop.
