TPratchett has a not-so-little health anouncement.

*wibble*

"I know it's a very human thing to say "Is there anything I can do", but in this case I would only entertain offers from very high-end experts in brain chemistry."

ROFL!! That is indeed very clever :P It's so sad to hear about the Alzheimer's, but he's right: he's not dead yet, and there are many more years of writing to go ;)

On that note; I haven't actually read any of his novels before, which one would you suggest as a first?

Oh dear, the question dreaded by all Pratchett fans...

Alright, see, 99% of Pratchett's books (http://www.lspace.org/books/reviews/index.html) are set on the Discworld, and he's got various "series" of books, depending on which characters are the focus. There's the Watch (i.e. police), the Witches, Rincewizard and the Wizards, Death, and finally one-shots. His first two books in the Discworld series are a bit lacking, so definately don't start with those. Each book, mind, is pretty independent.

Personally I love the Witches and Death (who shows up in every book), but don't much care for Rincewind or the Watch (though I love the Wizards and their resident librarian, an orangutan.)

But, suggestions. Wyrd Sisters (http://www.lspace.org/books/reviews/wyrd-sisters.html)Wyrd Sisters is Witch-Series and parodies McBeth. Small Gods (http://www.lspace.org/books/reviews/small-gods.html), the first book of his I read, is a one-shot on religion (and poses very interesting questions). I'm particularly fond of this one. I absolutely adore Hogfather (http://www.lspace.org/books/reviews/hogfather.html), in which Death impersonates the Discworld version of Father Christmas. So I'd suggest one of those (especially Hogf.).

And it goes without saying that if you don't read Good Omens (http://www.lspace.org/books/reviews/good-omens.html) (by Pratchett and Gaiman), I may have to stop being friends with you. (Ok, no, but the disappointment! It will cry with puppy eyes!)

Notable Mentiones: The Fifth Elephant (the Watch, diplomacy, werewolves) and The Last Continent (Rincewind and Australia parody all the way, plus evolution).

PS: Bwahahaha, I bet you were expecting a short reply!

Eeeeeek! Thanks for the recommendations :p I am definitely writing those down, and one of them will be the next book I read (after I finish Crime and Punishment, which is taking longer than I anticipated- likely because I can't read too much without sinking into a dark psychological depression).

*Big Hug*!!!!!!

Crime and Punishment? Woah, are you ever going to get readers!whiplash if your next book is Pratchett. :P

About the rec's: all his books are great, really, and any self-respecting library will have a good selection. Plz be reporting back on book chosen, initial reactions, etc. *huggles*
