Meme: 30-Day Original Story Development Challenge
Here is a 30 day original story development challenge. It can be filled by prose or illustration or comic or even just script, whatever works for you and how you’ll be displaying the setting. Feel free to reveal as much or as little as you want.

Day 15 - What are a character's bad habits?

Chip plays with the cigarette, flipping it over and between his fingers like he would a pen. It doesn't matter that he bends it, the ciggarette is already all bend to hell and off-white, little tuffs of tobacco floating out of the end on the occassional twirl. He has four more in the equally tattered box squeezed into his back pocket but thinks maybe this one will be the last one. For now.

He stops fidgetting - at least his hands stop, his right leg is still twitching a rhythm into the dry leaves littering the ground - and pinches the end of the cigarette closed, twisting it around to keep the tobacco in. He reaches into his pocket for his lighter and flips it on, then off again. *click* *snap* It's an oddly satisfying sound, so definite and solid - a closing door, a twisting key, the end - so he does it again, and again, watching the flame shiver in the cool air.

Chip looks out across the empty field and into the woods, and beyond that, the lake. He gets the feeling - slowly, creeping up and over him like a heat wave - that one day he'll have to run down that small dirt path, down to the trees, over roots and branches, until he reaches the water or his lungs burst. It iss a strange feeling, inevitable as a dream and just as tangible.

He lights the cigarette, cupping it gently in his hands pressed against the cold wire mesh fence, and takes in a deep drag.
