Instead of telling y'all how miserable I am and how shitty things are and I'm resolutely not crying all the time and how I've been rejected for two more jobs and how I haven't sent out any applications lately and how I've started watching Grey's Anatomy again and it's making me miserable in that I'm insanely sad and jealous of these people with lives and careers and purpose and studies and friends and good things and how, for example, my mother hasn't yet read my story although she scrolled down to read the comments and she doesn't understand that my showing her the story is a very big thing for me and it would be most welcome if she showed some fucking interest and that yes, people occasionally have to ask other people if they want to know how that person is, not sit down and shut up and expect that person to tell you everything you want to know without your showing any sort of interest and that the correct response to, "Look, Ma, I made a CV geared for translation jobs!" should at some point include something along the lines of, "That's nice, good job, looks good," or a variation thereof.

I'm sorry that things suck.

Your mother though... you know, she's never shown any interest in your writing. I think you're just going to have to let that one go. I know, maybe she SHOULD show interest- but if she never does, I don't think she suddenly will. So maybe you need to stop showing her stories. It's bound to hurt less... Anyway, it's not my place to give you advice, I just hate seeing you so sad.

But then why, when I ask her if she wants to read them, does she say things like, "Of course I do! I didn't know whether I could ask!"

WHY?

And I keep comparing this in my head to my mother fondly telling people over and over throughout my life how my brother used to write such lovely stories (during what must have been a very, very short time in his life) and how she found a story of his in his backpack and it was wonderful.

Whereas all I get it the mixed message of "I'm never going to ask to see your stories but I want to!" and "I'm never going to say I liked it or thought it was good, just that I can't read you English because it's too high a level for poor little me who reads novels in English all the time."

I am bitter. I am a huge lemon of bitterness. This is me and my lemon of bitterness:

I didn't know that your mum has been sending you mixed messages of teh crazy. I still think her actions speak louder than her words, though, which is very unfortunate. Maybe she genuinely wants to read the stories, but when the actual time comes... Well, I just think that she's not going to do it. So instead of being constantly hopeful and then disappointed, I know that I would just stop offering them to her.
