Most of what I would like to say about the season finale of Supernatural - or rather, the Epic Breakup of Cas'n'Dean and How Castiel Went Batshit - but most of that's been said better in the quotes below. There are two points I want to add, however, and I'll direct these to Dean - fictional character that he is regardless - directly.

Dear Dean,

Remember when your father told you that you had two options regarding Sam? How he told you that you had to save him or, if you couldn't, you had to kill him? Remember how resolutely you stuck to Option A, even saying you'd "rather die" than put your brother down? How you said, and I quote, "Sam, when Dad told me I might have to kill you, it was only if I couldn't save you. Now, if it's the last thing I do, I'm going to save you"?

Well, your brother did go Dark Side, and you did do everything you could to save him and never once tried for Option B.

So now I want you to take a good hard look at yourself. Think about how you've been handling Castiel's slow slide into the dark, how you've done nothing but push him away, and then think about what kind of man you are. Because you said Castiel was "like a brother" to you and he's gone Dark Side, and so help me, you pie-loving man, if you so much as look sideways at Option B, I will Do Things. You save your nerd-of-an-angel brother if it's the last thing you do.

Promise me you'll bring Cas back to me. Dean, I can’t take anything less. I can't. You kept fucking pushing him away, Dean - he reached out to you time and time again and you said no, you told him to fuck off and now he's...this. You sent him away. Well guess what, Dean? He's fucking gone. Your Cas.

He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.
