...its genes remembering the time it had been a giant reptile that could have taken these sons of monkeys to the cleaners in a mouthful.*

Saturday at Montserrat went quite well. It was very, very windy, but thankfully this meant the sky was clear, so we could see at one end the Pyrenees and at the other the sea. Instead of checking out the virgin and monastery, we took a hike around the mountain, 90% of which was the steepest path in existance. (Took a few pictures which I'll share the next time my poor laptop has internet.)

I was absolutely exhausted in the afternoon - it'd been a really, really long week with very many late nights, what with dinner and cleaning and walking about in the rain - and collapsed on the sofa half-watching PotC: DMC, which my uncles had rented.

Sunday was spent being Sunday, meaning lounging about, except for a spot of beurocracy for the universities which took a smidgin of time.

I'm off to the dermatologist now to make sure I'm not a lepper.

The good:

I´ve seen Narnia. I loved Mr and Mrs Beaver, and had a strange fasciation for the head wolf (it shames me to not remember his name, so he´s M---.) My love for Aslan´s a given, o´course*.

Oh, and, how friggedy cool is it to shoot a pheonix at your enemies? Totally friggedy, yo.

The bad:

It was dubbed. That didn´t stop me from being able to recite choice lines from memory. Alas, though, no Liam Neeson for me.

The ugly:

The professor. Totally not what I had in mind. And what was it with the unbelievable amount of minautaurs (or Tauren, which is a much nicer name)?

Kept getting flashbacks of the cartoon-movie version and occasionally thinking how much better the cartoon version was.

The cartoon Stone-Table scene totally pwns this one´s.

I´d like to add, though, that the cartoon-version (*not* the previous movie incarnations, which apart from making an adorable Reepicheep, are aparently not worth all too much) is amazing. I love it with all my heart. It´s just perfect. Afore-said Stone Table scene constantly gave me the wiggins. I´d totally watch it again.

It and the cartoon-version of The Hobbit (not the one with occasional real people which tried to include parts of TLOTR and didn´t make the second part because it sucked SO MUCH and it scarred both J and me for life) are my childhood favorites**. They´re just perfect.

And the songs! "Fifteen birds, in five fir trees..." Sure, lyrics by Tolkein, but just you try and not sing along to "Down, down to Goblin Town".

Their version of Gollum, btw, makes me feel unbelievably sorry for him. The book? Not so much.

Real life:

Thought maybe I´d mention I´ve broken my not-throwing up record of four years since last Saturday, but hey, who cares ´bout that. Stupid stomach flu.

Bought presents for uncles, who don´t really talk to me anyway, though I´ve been gone for two days and was, as mentioned, sick as a dog all Sunday.

Tiiiired.

PS: Flipping through the companion for the Narnia movie, saw that CSLewis had advised a lad to forgoe with whatever he had to and do whatever he could in order to be near his friends. No, I can´t remember the quote, damn it.

* I think the only time I´ve ever had actual faith was once, when I was little. (Guess CSLeewis´s attempt for religioning me was somewhat successful.) I was lying in bed and begging Aslan to let me find a way into Narnia. So yeah, I like Aslan.

** That´s probably because I can barely remember by early-childhood favorites: the My Little Pony and Carebear movies. Think maybe MLP was better than CB. Better villain, at least. I never liked the whole, "ooh, I´ve fallen in love with this girl and now I´ve killed her and it makes me feel so bad that, OMG, I CARE".

And He-Man was silly, but Skelletor was a kick-ass villain, if I recall correctly. Sigh. I´d love to re-watch so of these childhood shows.

And before I forget, I think the kid-show I watched in Spain about an alien yello bird guy was "Los Amigos de Yuppi". Maybe.

* From "Westminster Abbey" by John Betjeman, found here.

I was made to memorize this poem in 10th grade along with others. Still remember them and am trying to increase repertoire of memorized poems. (TMuch easier when poem is put to song. Thanks Loreena McK.)

Quick recap since last entry:

Finished TESl course, did exam. Think went weell; will pick up exam and coursework later this week.

Friday went to Katarina's place in King City. Due to mix-up of metro exits, spent one hour under overpass staring at pigeons feed their fledglings until we worked out that she was at the other, identical, overpass.

Confession: Have read last paragraph of HPotter. And flipped through last chapter. Have huge spoiler up my sleeve. Am armed and dangerous :)
(I can just see it now, me threatening little kids and grown-ups a like as they hops about, fingers in their ears and humming the Oscar Myer Weaner song, then screamming shrilly on a mountain-top "Knowledge is power!". Except most of them have already finished the book by now. Bugger.)

Yes, I'm back, dear little internet void. I have a lot of things to recount, so settle in. Here, let me get that buckle - aha! Trapped!

Warning: Long post

I can only recall as far back as Saturday, so here's the week in short recap:

Apparently am not developing allergies because, guess what, that one-week sneezing fit? A cold. Yip. Now everyone else is infected too. Ahaha! So basically a pretty miserable set of days.

I don’t know anyone with whom I’ve been in physical contact who’s ill. All the sick people I know live on the internet and phone lines... Lookit, there’s my brother, who was ill. I spoke with him on the phone. Jo, also sick, sent a message. Even Neil’s down with a cold. Is this some sort of new version of e-virus? I get it, not the computer? Blah.

I’m reading Coraghessan Boyle’s short story collection Descent of Man and particularly like “Bloodfall” which describes in realistic detail what it might be like to have blood fall from the sky one day in a downpour. The little humorous twist at the end, not so funny. I mean, it’s all eerie and everything, and then you get scatological humour falling from the sky in wet paddies. Eugh.

Read some of Scarygoround up until May 12 or thereabouts. Have totally abandoned Get Fuzzy, Pearls Before Swine and Spot the Frog (over here) for ages. Not to mention of all the fics that I’m waiting to be updated over at ff.net. (Mostly just Survivors by Whistler84 in the TV: Angel section.) Yes, sometimes the site actually does have gems. Although not many, and the crap you have to wade through to get to them, not worth it.

Someday I’ll make a list of decent websites and fics for various fandoms and post. (And vids too.) Some of those stories are copy/paste and save material. (Of which the Sith Academy, Knight Moves, Journeys and Survivors jump to mind. I realize this’ll mean very little to anyone else, but in time, dear void, all will be clear.)

Go read [livejournal.com profile] darthmaligna’s parody on a Weird Al song, SW style, and Evadne Noel's A New Hope BBE. Time well spent. (Of course, am horrified to think that that’s the motto of a commercial, but thankfully can’t recall which.)

And here’s a metaquote I promised to share with Jo:

Jesus vs. Buddah )

Typed up some old stuff for HManual, but didn't work on any actual chapter. Although the thing is a bit more organized. Or chaotic, but with a touch of class. Like if you fall over into the banquet table but manage to wipe your face with a napkin. What I'm trying to say is: small mercies this crazy thing has some sort of plot. Here's Chap 2.

Chapter 2: Enter Secondary Character (With a Grudge) )
