Sweet monkies onna vine! My Special Hell Fanart is making the rounds on Tumblr \o/ People like! *dances*

Also, I wrote fics. Plural. X-Men: First Class's J'aboude and Supernatural's Promises and Pie Crusts. Crossposting will happen - eventually - at least for the Sueprnatural one. I'm just as shocked as y'all are that I actually finished something. Now, there's that fic I've got dying on my harddrive since last October...

Now, excuse me, I have to look through every Mark Sheppard tumblr thing ever. NOW. Ngh.

I wrote Supernatural fic. The idea hit me like a rabid plot bunny - so rabid, in fact, it lacked plot and drooled ample amounts of angst and introspection. I wrote it over the past week of tourism in two exhausted binges. I have a Supernatural/True Blood fic halfway done, but this one just wouldn't get out of the way. Do y'all realize that this is the first fic I've written since Stonehenge Antomony back in August?

bending_sickle: (Now time for the weather)
My parents and I are leaving tomorrow for the week, driving up north across country borders, photographing everything, walking everywhere, and hunting down the delicious things. Dad wants to be out by 6:30 am (like that'll happen, but I still need to wake up appropriately).

Anyway, it's almost tomorrow as we speak (or I type) and I'll be damned if I don't watch Grey's Anatomy because I had a moderately-massive breakdown (packing is my kryptonite, and packing when my mother is in the country is even worse - oh, the disapproval and self-doubt!) and I bloody well deserve it. Besides, what's the difference between sleeping 5 hours or 4? I'm still going to be a zombie.

I'm not going to be connected to the internets: not taking my snazzy iPod because a) why would I need the internet? and sub-clause a) it's not like I've sent out applications this week or even possibly last so it's not like I'm waiting on any replies. Mom was all, "But what do you mean you're not taking the iPod? I thought you had replies to keep an eye on?" Fuck that.

Also, my short story got rejected (no shock, as they only accept 12 each month) and I think I'm going to call it quits on that front. Do not have the mental stamina for that kind of thing, at least not now. I was all panicked about my story not being mine anymore in that I couldn't expand on it without possibly breaching reproduction rights and all that. Feh.

Anyway, have to go zone out happily and catch a few winks before miles and miles of road (sans Winchesters, who'd make road trips awesome).

Then once back home, mom and I watched Precious, which I'd already seen, with me sometimes explaining what the people had said to mom (because her English is good, but not Harlem-in-the-1980's good). It's a great movie, but it's one of those that you never, ever want to see again and you'd rather cut out your heart and feed it to the blender because it'd be quicker and less messy than a second viewing.

Then I flipped through my Giant Folder of Fic Scribbles and organized a few together, because all day I'd been thinking of what I could write for the title Time for Wolves, which I expanded to Time the Wolves Came Home, mainly because [livejournal.com profile] capn_mactastic squeed at it and got me thinking. And of course, in looking for a header quote, I've discovered a vast number of songs about wolves, and they all seem to fit the half-formed world I've got in my head - see this post - and this is not helping. Sickle Has A Request: So I finally read through The Last Wild Angel - that story that in a fit of insanity I've decided to try and send to a magazine - enough to edit it a little and put it in manuscript format. However, I have some editorial questions of the "What should I dooooo?" and "Is this okay? Tell me it's okay!" variety. So does anyone care to beta? Please?

Sickle Writes (And Has Another Sort-Of Request): Day before yesterday - because I've been lax in posting - I finally finished typing out the notes I'd made for Time for Something Biblical, listing all the characters', set and plot details. It's on [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories, but flocked, which y'all know I never do on [livejournal.com profile] bending_sickle, because I'm apparently more paranoid about my half-formed creative ideas being open to the world than I am about my life.

I went to sleep quite late because I just can't come up with a title for the sequel. I know it's ridiculous, because I haven't even started writing it and I barely know what's going to happen, but I'm obsessed with finding the right title. Time for Something Biblical was such a perfect title, what with the apocalypse and the angel and all. Now I'm scouring the internet and quotes and books for anything that'll work, preferrably starting of with "Time For", and, if I want to be really picky, a Muse lyric - not because I like Muse, because I don't overmuch, but because I did the same with TFSB and its chapter titles and argh.

Random thought: I do really weird fanmixes. I've never done a proper, actually-related-to-fandom fanmix. The best I could do on that front is making a fanmix of all the songs I want to make into fanvids, but that's a bit odd, even for me. My mixes are all about long-distance relationships and obsessive compulsive disorder and chronic homesickness and gods know I might end up doing a mix on fish one of these days. I've already got two three songs in mind, and I didn't even have to think hard: Dawn of BtVS's "Anchovies" song, Monty Python's "Slapping Fish" song, and "It's a Long Way from Amphioxus". Crazy little Sickle.

I went to the beach yesterday, and we all went to the beach today. Still have those damned tan-lines, but I think they're fading. And yesterday I wrote a good bit for the Doctor Who meets Stonehenge Apocalypse crack story, although I apparently tend towards serious and long-winded crack. *sigh*

I'm currently playing Echo Bazaar (Wikidot entry) which is a role playing game that you can only do in short little bursts (i.e. ten actions to a total of 50 per day). It's awesome, though, and this is coming from someone who's most recent experience in role playing games is Pick Your Own Adeventure...back in her wee years. But it takes place in Fallen London, so it's a bit HP Lovecraft and quirky. It's twitter-based (i.e. you log in via your twitter account). The Escapist's review describes it as:
Set in the world of Fallen London, it combines elements of tabletop gaming, Victorian England, RPGs, and social networking. Sporting a cheeky sense of humor and a Lovecraftian vibe, the game combines the addictiveness of grinding with an unusual and compelling story elements. While its browser-based gameplay is certainly quite entertaining, Echo Bazaar's real appeal lies in its robust mythology and surprisingly deep backstory, which you discover bit by tiny bit as you play. The world of Fallen London is a joy to explore, a weird and wonderful playground where clay men wrestle in pubs and you pay for your lodgings with cryptic secrets.

Come on, join up! I'll invite you over for tea or on a bank heist or whatever it is I can invite you to. Or don't, whatever, I'm just sharing the fun.

Did I mention I have a weasel? Yes I do :D

And again with the meme-as-content. Because the other option is to tell you how I opened a coconut using only a hammer and a mini-flathead screwdriver in twenty minutes [ETA: By which I mean, I totally made that cococunt coconut where did that typo come from, Frued?!? my prison bitch, and had it cracked open and completely gutted in twenty minutes) or how I'm currently re-translating everything at Internship into Spanish, which results in boredom and brief escapades into wikipedia where I learn about sky burials and The Thing and The Invisible Pink Unicorn.

Also, is 20 songs too long for a fanmix?

Okay, so I'm being incredibly shitting at posting lately. That's simply because the day is too bloody short and I can no longer just hook up the internet via IV direct into my bloodstream like I used to. I've done Things, like:

Wednesday and Thursday I have no idea what happened. Probably not zombies.

Friday I walked for hours and hours in the heat with blisters all over Rome trying to find the spot marked down on my map where I could find a second-hand sale of English books, only to discover, upon arrival, a note stuck on the door saying that if there were a transport strike - which apparently there was, but it was very discrete - the sale would be canceled. Cue Sickle sitting down on the steps and crying in frustration.

Saturday I went to Ostia Antica (which was awesome) by myself (which was even better) and took lots and lots of photographs (which I will share....eventually).

Sunday I went to Castel Gandolfo with my parents (which was right next to where we'd gone the other time, Genzano di Roma) and it went well except for the whole "with my parents" bit which did nothing but result in heartache and anger and utter, utter crap.

After that I went downtown to have dinner with Friend C from Italian class and we talked about cultures, countries, immigration, friendships and the like for four fucking hours and my brain could not take that much socializing and talking but it was nice nonetheless.

Today I went with mom to the neighbourhood where we used to live, back when it was still the 1980's and I recognized our parking lot and it was okay except for the whole "with mom" bit.

I spent most of yesterday writing a blog entry in my head for Blog Like it's the End of the World Day and let me tell you, your day becomes much more interesting once you put on the mindframe of, "What if the zombiepocalypse happens right now?" Unfortunately, I didn't have the energy to write the entry and then today I saw that no one had BLITEOFW anyway. Still, I was hit over the head by a sentence and therefore wrote a zombie drabble. It's here at [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories.

I also copy/pasted a cracked-out drabble I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] seschat onto [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories. It's called Eliminate the Impossible and crosses Sherlock Holmes, Iron Man and House, M.D.. Yeah...

Sickle Life: Sunday I went to a free organ (Ansgar Wallenhorst) and piano (Giampaolo Di Rosa) concert at the Sant'Antonio church. They played C. Frank's III Corale in la minore, JSBach's Suite inglese in la minore BWV 807 (♥) and, for the first time ever, Di Rosa's Coloria. Both also did some improvisational pieces. I'll admit I went for the baroque and, as it turns out, do not like seem to like improvisation. (I already knew I didn't like improvisational jazz.) It just frustrates me too much, watching the melody wander around erratically. The Bach pieces, however, were glorious and holy mother of speed, did Di Rosa's hands blur as they flittered over the keys.

Tonight I went to a piano (Alessandro Stella) and flute (Mauro Conti) concert, again with JSBach and also, again for the first time ever, a piece by argentinian Sergio Calligaris, who was present. Once again, my love for Bach was confirmed and enjoyed, while SCalligaris didn't win any space in my heart. MConti, however, was awesomesauce.

Random photographs! )

Fandom Life: Lost finale still pending. I know, I suck. Still, shush about it - I've avoided spoilers so far, and I'd like to keep it that way.

This past weekend I went through a whole slew of notes, printouts and scribbles I'd brought back with me from the Barcelona basement where they'd been stored since 2007. It was my Fanfic Folder. Some of the scribbles were good, some plots were MarySuesque in their drama but had redeeming points, and all were a lovely walk down memory lane. The problem is, of course, that I've now rekindled the flame of the "This Fic is on the chronic back-burner" type into the "Oh gods, oh gods, that'd be awesome to write" flame. Read more... )

Speaking of the "write now, this is idea is awesome!" flame, I need to seriously buckle down and write. And not just because if I don't finish The Balloonist's Wife and Real Heroes Give Up I might scream (although I am really, really ready to get those suckers down on paper). Oh no. It's because I keep getting images post-Time for Something Biblical. The latest, for example, features Agatha and a gun. (Not, of course, shooting it, but with it nonetheless.) How can I not write that? With no time, that's how. Argh.

I'd meant only to write a tiny line of meta when I wrote up the Links of the Day last night. It was this:
Sam casting Lucifer out < Sam failing to cast Meg out (even if his powers were itty bity or dormant or whatever, he's gone and let himself get flabby in the demonic power department).

But instead this morning I was hit by a fully-formed fanfic idea that absolutely demanded to be written. So instead of meta, I come with fic. I've cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] dean_sam - and yes, I am freaking out over that. Love me! Or at least, don't hurt me.

Squee of the Day: [livejournal.com profile] seschat is wonderful and awesome and owns my heart. Why? Many reasons, including her review of Time for Something Biblical and book covers. ♥

Life Accomplishments of the Day: I sent in the application for the Assistant Scientist job in Scotland. Here goes nothing.

Fandom Accomplishments of the Day: I've finally gotten my act together in terms of writing again. I've decided to tackle The Balloonist's Wife (Lost, focusing on Henry Gale's wife) mainly because it's so close to finished. I have 4,600 words of it done, and it's just missing one scene and six sub-stories (which can be as short as drabbles). So yay on that.

I also want to tackle the essay Real Heroes Give Up: On Personal Sacrifice for the Greater Good, which I've worked on twice in two years. Oy.

Then there's the whole slew of plot bunnies and half-done stories on [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories (which will be done, by gods), although I'm also starting to think about exploring the aftermath of Time for Something Biblical. I never did get Chip to go on patrol with Dean, although I threatened to do so. I mean, I could edge the whole thing towards SPN's The End time frame... (Blame [livejournal.com profile] seschat for all this musing.) If I write a little every day...

Alright guys, I've joined the crazy. I'd been planning on limping along behind the masses for a while, but hell, if you're going to fail, at least get your name on the fail-list, right? So I'm going to do Nanowrimo (my profile).

I haven't written anything substantial in about a year, so that's starting off well. I do have a half-assed plot, or rather plots: I'm planning on combining a number of plot bunnies into a horrible Frankenbunny. I know Nano says you have to start from scratch, although outlines are a-okay. So while I have pieces of these plotbunnies written, I'll slip them in once Nano is over and I'm a crack-addict insomniac with only 10,000 words of a novel, the last 500 of which are along the lines of "All work and no play."

The plotbunnies (and their [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories entries) are as follows: Read more... )

Now, there's no word on using Fandom in Nano (why would there?) but I think if I get stuck I can lay the whole thing into Supernatural's "The End" apocalyptic and Croatoan-stricken future. But I guess I should just start writing the damn thing and roll with it. If I have to be disorganized and have a zillion flash-backs or introductions or story-lines that may meet up 'round the back, so be it.

May the gods spare us undue harm. (And writer's block.)

In other news, I bought and ate ridiculous amounts of candy, failed to dress up or go out anywhere, and watched The Exorcist for the first time (on YouTube) and failed to be awed by said classic, although it's alright.

ETA: I'm 634 words in. Chip has cleaned his windshield (poorly) and smoked a cigarette. Maybe starting with your character driving alone to nowhere in particular isn't the best idea... But I'm seeing where things can go. I think I'll do the dying angel bit soon, and that can add a whole lot of exposotion and characters and possibly crack. Also, violence will have to ensue at some point. I need just over 1000 words tomorrow for Day 1 of Nano to not be a failure. Whoot!

Over on [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories, I've been working on gathering quotes for the essay I swear I will totally write some day, Real Heroes Give Up: On Personal Sacrifice for the Cause. Caitlin Kiernan's Threshold and Supernatural would go fantastically well together, particularly Dancy Flammarion's past.

I'm working on collecting quotes and screencaps from both sources. See the maddness here!

One day, I swear to my dear and fluffy Lord, I'll actually sit down and do more than just note down and neurotically expand on ideas. I'll actually do them. Shock! Horror!

I'm actually quite serious about wanting to do some fanvids and fanfics, but I get can't sit the muse down to focus on one project. Instead she takes crack and rambles on and on about different ideas that's be pretty swell.

This SPN/Threshold concept is one of those I'm pretty serious about, although I've got a clearer idea of it as a fanvid or fake trailer than I do as a fanfic. *sigh*
