Yesterday was my last day at my internship, and goddamnit, if I could network and socialize like I did yesterday when I was saying goodbye... I had lunch with my supervisor and the rest of my team (I was part of a team, yo, although that was more administrative than anything) and then ran around having coffee with different people and basically feeling like:

Today was Day 1 of freeeeeedom (a.k.a. unemployment) and tomorrow I'm off to Barcelona. I'll be back in a week with snazzy things (I will get books) and food, and then I'll continue this mad socializing things. There's a lot of stuff I need to do for that, stuff to get together and the likes, but I'm all headachey and I just managed to clean up the mad amounts of tabs I had open.

I seem to have gone from the saddest little llama, wibbling everywhere, to happy (if a bit "I've got noooothing to say" hence this post). This is weird. And my relationship with my mom's improved. I don't know what's going on.

In other news, I finally watched Alice and ngh, Hatter. (Trailer)

Also I'm slowly trying to get Time 3 spruced up to post (and to send to CreateSpace) but there's been a certain lack of motivation going on. Whelp. Hopefully this week I'll get the missing scene done (it might even just be a paragraph, but writing, ugh) and then it's just a hope and a jump.

So in the fine tradition of plugging my Nanowrimo into Wordle to make a word cloud, here's evidence of just how much Crowley derailed everything: Read more... )

I'm still in my "watch all the Mark Sheppard things!" mode. I've followed Mark into some amazing new shows - Leverage and White Collar and Battlestar Galactica - and into some watchable ones - Warehouse 13 and Chuck, for example. Then there's Bionic Woman and Middle Man, which I plowed through out of sheer devotion to Mark's minor character. Oh, Mark...

Right now, I'm watching 24 and I almost wish I were watching Middle Man. At least that one was amusing. For one, it doesn't help that this is totally not my style of show. There's no fantasy and no science, so that's me clutching at staws to find something I can invest in. I'm shit out of luck doing that with Mark's character because the first episode he's in, he's hunkered down in a crowd, head in his hands. The second one, he's got tiny scenes of sitting in a car. (Sitting well and lovely, but still.) Right now I'm hanging onto Grey's Anatomy's Teddy and The Lord of the Rings Sam to get me through. That and the awesome character Chloe O'Brian.

But I can handle that, no problem. What I cannot handle is how the male characters are responding to and treating two female characters. Read more... )

In other news, I've watched all of the guest-starring-Mark-Sheppard episodes of BSG and am still a bit on the fence over whether I like the show or not. I can see that it's good, but it hasn't quite gripped me. Still, I've been reading Television Without Pity's recaps of the episodes I watched, and apart from being astonishingly well-written in the analytical and poetic sense of it all, they make me want to watch the show in full, if only to get a sense of these vast sweeping themes. So BSG is still on the List of TV Shows to Watch.

However, that's not what I want to share today. What I want to share is reason 2349 why Romo Lampkin is awesome.

He's handcuffed and has a big bad soldier with an even bigger, badder gun aimed at his *squints eyes* well, ass, really. And you know what? He kills that solder dead. With a pen. A stolen pen.

Did I mention he's a lawyer?

Captives (1994) and a who's who in Doctor Who: I love this movie. I watched it way back in 2006 or 2007 - and if I could find the post I'd link it, alas - and just recently realized that, hey, I'd love to get my grubby hands on it again. So ta-da! I watched it last night instead of going to sleep at a regular hour - "Just a little bit," I promised, "just a scene or two" and then it was near 2 am and I was all a-squee.

I can't find a trailer for it on YouTube - it is from 1994, after all, the time of answering machines and cordless phones with antennae - but I'll give you a brief rundown and fanvid. Read more... )

Today I applied for another internship, ate by mself, watched a bit of Going Postal (Poirot!) then joined mom downtown for yet another (unsuccessful) search for sandals and summer clothes.

A brand name caught my eye and gave me instant plot-bunnyitis, which is something I've been trying to get out of my system for the past couple of hours. Almost 600 words later and I'm still just setting up the story, have yet to get to the actual beginning of the reveal, but I'm loving it. I seem to have a thing for fallen angels and apocalypses. Yay for the oomf behind creativity!

There seems to be a lot of that running around lately, if the completed fanmix and (tiny little bit of) work on the fanvid are anything to go by. Speaking of, I'm glad I've discovered that Mediafire tells you how many times something's been downloaded. I mean, I'd be freaking out over no one giving a shit because there's only the one comment, but hey! Downloads are happening! Yay! (Still, comments are always nice. Not that I often do so with fanmixes, either, but hey.)

Also, I caught the last fifteen minutes of an episode of Lie to Me which has Tim Roth so I went :) and he was bloody, on the ground and at gun-point and I was like :D and then I saw that the gun-totin' villain was Cromartie aka John Henry so I was all \o/

* Hello Saferide, "I Don't Sleep Well"
bending_sickle: (Do not start with me)
Yesterday's Italian class was only revision, revision, revision, with an extra dash of exercises. Today's class was canceled because our substitute had to be somewhere's or something or whatever, he has his own schtick, and our real teacher is still sick, or "sick" or whatever. So we'll recoup the 3 missing hours by adding on some fifteen or so minutes after every class that's coming up. Right... Our real teacher better have been damn sick, because this is all very unprofessional. And expensive, did I mention that?

So instead of going to class, I spent the morning writing a cover letter for a position as a consulting scientist here in Rome, did some exercises and then, after lunch, mom and I took a walkabout and came back with fruit.

There's random thumping and tapping coming in through the walls - tap tap thud - which is making me tense up into a really annoyed little ball that can't think straight, hence this lopsided entry. The wolves are in the walls, eh? Shoot them dead.

And now, Lost. Die, you thumping, tapping bastard, die!

Before I go on about stuff, I can has thesis grade! Academic squee and news )

I've been listening to the Good Omens audiobook (which works much better in audio than I'd expected) and But Then By Homework Was Never Quite Like This podfic. The podfic is over six hours of dom/sub slash porn which gets a bit boring after a while, but is well-written. If it weren't for audiobooks, I'd hardly read (and I use the verb loosely) anything at all, what with the lack of time and books. Hmm, I could start on the second Sookie Stackhouse book tomorrow, that'd pass the time while I bind.

Speaking of binding, I'm totally printing and binding my pdf. Which I will finish today. Or tomorrow. Gods, it's just a tiny little coda I want to write...

Also, for the second morning in a row I've been nauseaus over breakfast. While nausea is sort of my weak spot when it comes to deep-seated nervousness (I threw up before my flight to university-for-the-first-time and was chronically blargh before the-move-to-the-Netherlands), I don't know where the stress may be coming from this time. I mean, nothing's freaking me out twenty-four-seven. Huh. Future for the freak-out?

ETA: The 2600 word extra Dean&Icarus scene is written! There is schmoop! Hidden below many layers of angst and grief and hard-knock-lifery. Which is to say, there's is almost-hugging! And fingers in hair! And I just remembered I forgot to put in one detail about Icarus telling or saying he's going to tell Dean about Chip's angel-vision but it's okay, we don't need that bit anyway and it would break the flow and anyway they can talk about it anytime and oh my god it's over! PDF pimpage tomorrow!

Studies: I finished writing my thesis yesterday! \o/ It's all written down and neat and pretty. I've still got to do the databases (one of which, the lion observation sheets, will take aaaaages because now I know which lions they are) and a presentation next Monday (cue panic!), but that's pretty much it! The whole thing stands at 110 pages, although the actual article itself, without tables of contents (there are many) and appendices (of which there are too many), stands at 42 pages and 10,406 words.

Nano: Ha! You thought you'd never see this boldtext again, didn't you? You thought wroooong. ...ahem. I've got the outer graphics all done, and chapters broken and titled. I'm going to do some in-text graphics, and there's a missing scene I'm dying to write (the Dean and Icarus-now-Castiel conversation) and I also want make a compilation of my Nano-rants and I've got the tracklist for a fanmix and... That's about it. So. Point is, it'll be glorious - not now, but soon. Yay!

Life: A joyous celebration was had yesterday in honour of the thesis completion. (Translation: I walked about and had a Subway sandwhich).
